Rifampicin - induced Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Abstract

|
We described here a patient wit thrombocytopenic purpura induced by rifampicin. The case was a 26 year-old female who had had moderately advanced pulmonary tuberculosis a d been , on the regimen of antituberculous medicine including rifampicin. The thrombocytopenic purpura appeared months after the treatment with rifamp cin, and which was rapidly improved with cessation of the drug. The diagnosis was confirmed by its reproducibility with rifampicin. The pathogenesis of the thrombocytopenia in this case was thought to be immunologic phenomenon, and the relevant literature was reviewed.
